We foster a strong sense of community that is truly one of the most treasured aspects of The Red Oaks School experience. We are like a family, comprised of students; parents; faculty staff; and an extended network of alumni, friends, and supporters. We are bonded together by our common commitments to the concerns, values, and expectations we have for the young people we serve. At The Red Oaks School, personal relationships grow strong and friendships run deep. Alumni and former families and friends are often drawn to our open doors, returning to renew bonds with teachers and former fellow students.
We are enriched by the diversity of our community. At Red Oaks children grow up in a global community. They learn to understand and appreciate cultural differences and the shared human values of peace, independence, human dignity, and our interconnectedness with each other and with this planet that sustains us. We have created a positive sense of identity, mutual consideration, and concern among students and faculty that truly defines us as a caring multicultural community.
Here are some of the attributes that describe our diversity:
- 20% of our students and 50% of our families originate from countries outside the United States, coming from 6 different continents and more than 26 different nations.
- 30% of our students hold citizenship or dual citizenship in a country other than the United States.
- 50% of our families speak a second language or dialect in their home, with more than 30 different languages or dialects represented.
- 35% of our students have a primary racial-ethnic identification other than white, with 14% self-identifying with more than one racial-ethnic category.
