Learning a foreign language holds a very important place in The Red Oaks School curriculum. Research shows that capacity to learn new languages is tied to early critical periods in brain development. Children who are exposed to new languages at a young age are far better able to acquire and develop languages later in life. In addition, learning new languages broadens students' perspectives and knowledge about other cultures and peoples, a core competency for the 21st century.
The teaching of foreign language at The Red Oaks School follows the Symtalk Method, a unique approach that uses visuals which are specifically designed to accelerate the language learning process. Our goal is to foster competency in structuring full sentences and to attain communicative proficiency. By the completion of the Upper Elementary program, students have acquired a strong foundation in basic vocabulary, grammar, and sentence construction, and are able to communicate in both oral and written forms.
Spanish is the core language taught in all grades at The Red Oaks School.
