Red Oaks Welcomes Playwright-in-Residence
Red Oaks is delighted to welcome playwright-in-residence Dominique Cieri to our school. Ms. Cieri will be working with our Upper Elementary students to assist them in writing and performing original dramatic works.
Seasoned playwright, teaching artist, member of the Dramatists Guild, and recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Individual Playwriting Fellowship, 2003, Ms. Cieri is a graduate of Rose Bruford College in Kent, England, and has a Bachelor’s from Empire State College where she was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence, SUNY, Albany. Her plays include Davie Award winner and American Drama Critics Association Award Nominee Pitz & Joe at Geva Theatre, New York; For Dear Life, finalist for Charlotte New American Plays Festival; Last Kiss, developed at Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York and presented in North Carolina’s Festival of New Works, in 2004; and her most recent play, Count Down, produced in 2005 with Off World Theatre and The Artists Collective for Social Change at the Puffin Cultural Forum (New Jersey) and in New York, at the Bank Street Theatre.
Ms. Cieri has also written about arts and education in the New York Times, the Daily Record, New Jersey Theatre Alliance and Teaching Artist Journal. Along with historian Gabriela Weiss, she co-authored the book From the Attic, To the Classroom, To the Stage: The Holocaust, for Yavneh Academy in Paramus, N.J., where she teaches the adaptation of non-fiction, based on the Holocaust, into full length plays written and performed by Yavneh’s eighth grade class.
Dominique has been designing and teaching playwriting and theatre workshops for over fifteen years for numerous arts organizations, including, Theatre for a New Audience, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Young Audiences, Artist Teacher Institute and Arts Horizons.
