May 27, 2009

On May 2nd, 2009, at the AAU (American Athletic Union) Regional Tournament, in Cookesville Maryland, seven members of The Red Oaks School Lightning Bolts Travel Team qualified for the Junior Olympics! Those who qualified were among the top ten competitors from each age group attending the tournament. The 2009 Junior Olympics will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, in late July, and all six students are planning to attend and compete. Qualifying for the Junior Olympics were: Anabel Carroll, Marley Carroll, Anna Hope Emerson, Lori Fong, Genny Lewis, Casey Maslan, and Erin Mooney.

Our athletes will be competing singly and in pairs in the following categories: Speed (number of jumps in one minute), Power (number of double-unders in one minute), and Freestyle (performance of a 45-75 second routine set to music).

We congratulate each one of these students and commend their parents for demonstrating the level of dedication and support that has allowed them to succeed.
