In this sequence, students rapidly develop the basic skills they need to navigate in life and in progressively challenging academic settings. Consistent with current best practices, the program is interdisciplinary, hands-on, experiential, and open-ended. We foster independence and academic performance by providing “choice within limits;” encouraging students to actively manage their own learning within predefined boundaries that are established to ensure strong progress across subject areas. There is flexibility for students to progress at their own pace, advancing in areas of strength and taking additional time to master areas of challenge. Some highlights of the Lower Elementary curriculum include:
- Thinking Maps – an innovative curriculum that enables critical thinking and analysis and forms the foundation for our superb writing program
- Hands-on mathematics curriculum designed to adhere to National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards
- Enhanced technology program that focuses on use and management of computer and information technology
- A rich curriculum of geography and social studies that provides deep immersion into world cultures and is organized around essential questions for inquiry and understanding
