When students are engaged, great learning happens!

Montessori children become lifelong learners because our classrooms foster natural curiosity. Our teachers are themselves passionate about learning, and prepare lessons that are engaging and memorable. Alumni students visit annually and share their unique memories from their time at Cutler Street. Here, children dive deeply into topics and have opportunities to think creatively, design, and express themselves.

Early Childhood
(Pre-K & Kindergarten – ages 3 to 6)

Early childhood years set a foundation for children's attitudes towards learning. Their brains grow 90% in the first five years of life, so now is the time to maximize your child's potential! Preschoolers at Red Oaks acquire the skills necessary to enter Kindergarten confident, well-prepared and with a passion to learn. Kindergarteners are encouraged to pursue their curiosities and tackle new challenges while setting a model for their younger classmates. Children tend to "rise up" to the responsibilities in a mixed-aged setting.

Elementary
(Grades 1 to 4 – ages 6 to 11)

As students enter first grade at Red Oaks, they literally and figuratively "step up." They enter a hybrid learning environment that fuses Montessori materials with current best practices in teaching. Children are introduced to Civics concepts and discuss the importance of "community" and learn how to work together with members of their school community. They extrapolate these lessons when studying geography and they learn how they belong to a greater global community. They study cultures and languages around the world through geography, foreign language, and language arts. They are stretched to become skilled and facile problem solvers through our math and science curricula as well.

A focus on the arts

Education in the arts is an integral part of our development as human beings. Exposure to creativity in many forms certainly stimulates freethinking, expression and problem-solving. But studies have also associated exposure to the arts with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking and verbal skills. The arts play a significant role in our daily learning environment here at Red Oaks where we use these outlets for creativity to promote self-esteem and improved emotional expression, as well as social connection and appreciation of diversity.
