How to Apply
Ages 3–Kindergarten
1. Visit
Prospective families are encouraged to (and should) tour the school. Contact our Director of Admission, Fran Sonneborn, at fsonneborn@redoaksschool.org or 973-539-7853, x120.
2. Complete Application
Complete the online Application for Admission and submit a $75 application fee. Upon completion of application, you will be prompted to submit the following:
• Transcripts
• Early Childhood Student Recommendation Form
Note: For applicants not currently attending school, the student referral should be completed by a non-family adult who knows your child such as a nanny, babysitter, activity teacher, or pediatrician.
3. Student Interview
All 3 and 4 year old applicants whose completed application is received by the application deadline will be scheduled for a 30 minute interview. Kindergarten applicants will be scheduled to spend a school day morning at Red Oaks, where the applicant will enjoy time at school and be assessed for basic skills. In addition, expect a call to arrange a parent meeting with the Director of Admission.
Grades 1–4

3. Student Visit and Interview
Once we have received the completed Application, Transcripts and Student Recommendation Form, you will receive a call to schedule your child's interview, which consists of spending a school day at Red Oaks. In addition to enjoying a day at Red Oaks, students will be assessed in math, reading comprehension, writing and spelling. A parent meeting with the Director of Admission, will most likely be scheduled for the same day as your child’s interview.
Grades 5–8

- 3 Student Recommendation Forms
- Standardized Testing
- All applicants apply for grade 5–8, must submit testing results from one of the following tests within 9 months of the admission deadline:
- Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE)– Red Oaks Code: 31194
- Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)– Red Oaks Code: 6018

3. Student Visit and Interview
Once we have received the completed Application, Transcripts, Test Results, and Student Recommendation Forms, your child's file will be reviewed by the admission committee to determine if a school visit and interview will be granted. During the school visit, students will be assessed in math, reading comprehension, writing and spelling. Students will also be asked to participate in classroom discussion. A parent meeting with the Director of Admission, will most likely be scheduled for the same day as your child’s interview.

All completed applications will be reviewed in February and notification will be emailed in early March..
