Pre K–Kindergarten: Montessori Foundations

A Thoughtfully Scaffolded Education

Our Early Childhood program lays the foundation for a modern approach to Montessori in the elementary years, blending high-impact Montessori practices with evidence-based cognitive science. Teaching methods include Singapore Math, systematic phonics instruction, and conversational Spanish, preparing younger students for the challenges of Middle School as they transition seamlessly into our International Baccalaureate program.

Montessori Foundations

A Montessori education builds the foundational skills children need to succeed as independent learners. In our early childhood classrooms, students practice self-management daily as they choose purposeful work, follow multistep routines, and take responsibility for completing tasks and resetting them for others. The hands-on, multi-sensory materials are intentionally designed to be self-correcting, encouraging children to think critically, problem-solve, and persist through discovery and experimentation. The Montessori method fosters communication and collaboration as students learn to work respectfully alongside their peers, navigate shared spaces and materials, advocate for their needs, and practice patience.

Outside the classroom, specialized teachers work with small groups of students for PE, Spanish, Music, and Art.

The Red Oaks Difference

Not all Montessori programs are created equal. For more than 60 years, Red Oaks has refined its approach to Montessori education. With two teachers in each early childhood classroom—each with more than a decade of experience—and beautiful, fully equipped learning spaces designed specifically for Montessori instruction, you’ll immediately see why our program is so highly regarded.

Not familiar with Montessori education? While play-based programs often build social skills without content, and traditional kindergartens can emphasize worksheets, apps, and other low-engagement approaches, Montessori instruction combines purposeful, hands-on learning with opportunities to explore, make choices, and work with others. Children build strong foundations in language and mathematics while practicing concentration, independence, and care for their community. It is an approach that nurtures children’s natural curiosity while helping them develop the skills and confidence to take on new challenges.
