With the arrival of Fall, both Early Childhood classrooms have begun the study of apples. Children learned about the "life cycle" and "parts of an apple" in Science. Each classroom taste-tested three different varieties of apples: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith. After voting and plotting the results on a graph, Red Delicious emerged as the favorite for both classrooms!
In Ms. Mary Anne/Ms. Chantal/Ms. Nimisha’s class, the students learned how to make fresh, warm applesauce. Everyone helped chop, measure, and mix the ingredients. By lunch time, the applesauce was ready for tasting!
Across the hall, in Ms.Eva/Ms.Maggy/Ms.Bonnie’s classroom, more chopping, grating, and measuring ensued to produce a rather large, tasty batch of apple butter. The essence of freshly grated lemon rind (a key ingredient) wafted throughout the classroom.
All in all, the first floor main hallway smelled scrumptious!
(A thank you/shout-out to Amanda Scuccato (Ollie’s mom), Francesca Ecker (Helena’s mom) and Tanvi Mody (Mili’s mom) for helping in the applesauce project.)
