7th & 8th grade students writing position papers for MMUN

This week, students submitted their position papers to the Montessori Model United Nations organization for approval. Once approved, students will be formally accepted to participate in February's conference. In order to appreciate the work involved in this valuable, global eye-opening opportunity, students researched their assigned country, focused in on their committee topic, and crafted detailed outlines to create finished position papers. Students also acted as peer editors as the process evolved. After our winter break, students will turn their attention to speechwriting and conducting mock conferences to familiarize themselves with the vocabulary and rules associated with the MMUN event. All of this preparation taps into our students' Executive Skills and will make for a most moving experience hearing the voices of student delegates during the Closing Ceremony -- for which Red Oaks students have consistently spoken at the General Assembly podium.
